BOXING::Berchalt defends against unranked opponent

WBC junior-lightweight champion Miguel Berchalt of Mexico makes the second defence of his belt when he meets Maxwell Awuku from Ghana who is not ranked in the WBC top forty, at the Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Quintana, Mexico on Saturday.
The 26-year-old Berchalt, 32-1; 28, won the WBC belt in January 2017 when he knocked out Francisco Vargas in the eleventh round and then in July made a successful defence against Japan's Takashi Miura, winning on points by wide margins.
The only loss on his record was in March 2017 when Luis Eduardo Florez stopped him at 1 minutes 39 seconds into the first round.
Awuku, 44-3-1; 30, has an impressive record but the only quality fighter he has faced is Daud Yordon (33-3) who outpointed him over 12 rounds in June 2015.
Since his defeat against Yordon, according to Boxrec he has scored victories over unknown opponents like Joseph Adu (7-12), Nazaire Kpadonou (6-7), John Oblitey Commey (9-21) and Jonathan Yartey (14-13).
The rugged Awuku, who fights from the southpaw stance, only goes into the fight with a puncher's chance.
The other main organisation champions are WBA, Alberto Machado (Puerto Rico), IBF, Kenichi Ogawa (Japan) and WBO, Vasyl Lomachenko (Ukraine).
