Higa defends against Fuentes

WBC flyweight champion Daigo Higa from Japan makes the second defence of his belt when he meets former WBO minimumweight champion Moises Fuentes of Mexico in Okinawa, Japan on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Higa 14-0; 14 won the vacant WBC belt in May 2017 when he stopped Juan Hernandez Navarette in the sixth round and made a successful defence against Thomas Masson on a seventh round technical knockout.
Higa made his pro debut on June 17 2014 and won his first five fights all inside two rounds and continued on his destructive path winning his next nine fights inside the distance.
His only match that went any distance was against Filipino Renren Tesorio in November 2015 who took him into the tenth round before being stopped.
Fuentes, 30, whose birth name is Moises Fuentes Rubio has compiled a record 25-4-1; 14 since making his pro debut in May 2007.
He won the WBO minimumweight belt in August 2011 on a split decision against Raul Garcia and made two successful defences against Julio Cesra Felix and Ivan Calderon before relinquishing the belt and moving up in weight.
Ranked at No 9 by the WBC he goes into this fight having lost two of his last three fights.
Early in his career Fuentes was a strong and aggressive fighter but the odds favour Higa to win inside the distance.
The other major organisation champions are IBF, Donnie Nietes (Philippines), WBO, Sho Kimura (Japan). The WBA title is vacant.
